Nine Years of Cloudflare
I’ve been using Cloudflare for some time now — nine years, by the look of my domain registration. I even brought their services into work, and honestly can’t do without them there either. The Cloudflare tunnelling in particular is just superb.
Today I went to renew my personal domain, whalesanctuary.co.uk, and chose to do so for another nine years. But as I did it, I noticed a message on my dashboard:
Email verification for contact info
Please verify
[email protected]to prevent domain suspension
Oh shit. I can’t respond to that email — it’s an address at a job I don’t work at anymore. I’m going to get suspended on ICANN!
I panicked, ran through the support bot — yep, I use the free plan for my personal stuff, so no online human support there. I raised a ticket anyway, though it only let me select P4 (the lowest priority). I figured it would be a week or more before I even got a response, the domain would be parked in the meantime, and I’d end up in a battle trying to prove it was mine.
It was only minutes later that I got a reply. It simply told me to accept the change on the new registrant email I’d chosen, and they’d sort out the manual change from their end. Here’s me expecting to dig out my passport and driving licence for some ICANN-mandated identity check. No — just reply to the email to say I’d accepted it, and bingo, my registration details were updated.
I love Cloudflare.
